Spotlight Weekly – Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada
I’m packing for a trip to Toronto today
The Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada is the world’s largest mining conference. It happens in Toronto in early March, as a punishment. I’m mostly kidding – I did look at the weather forecast though, and temperatures will be around freezing every day and we can expect either rain or snow.
Sheesh.
That said, I’m excited to meet with geologists, engineers, and investors from all over the world. I’ll be researching the latest ideas and digging into the investment themes we have in place. I hope to come back with several investment ideas.
One area that I’ll be focusing on is copper. As you can see from the chart below, copper prices have remained high for most of the past 20 years:
I’m interested in copper companies across the entire spectrum – from large producers to small explorationists. That said, the established copper producers – the ones that have been around for years – are fraught with risk. Many of those companies have ticking time bombs in their portfolios. We don’t want that.
Instead, I’m looking for companies that embrace new mining practices and that actually care about safety and community. Those companies actually reduce our risk of catastrophic loss.
I’ll be back in time for next week’s update.
Look for some video clips from the show on our YouTube channel in the meantime.
Sincerely,
Matt Badiali
